Cruises from Miami, Florida

There are chairs out there for a reason,” stated one of the top comments. Similar to our experiences on other ships in this class, the Adventure of the Seas Spacious Ocean View Balcony was the perfect mix of size and value. We’re strong believers that on a short cruise of five days or fewer, you can get by without having a balcony cabin. On a short trip, between everything to do on board and being in ports of call, the amount of time you’ll take advantage of the balcony is relatively small. While they are the width of the cabin — usually around 8-10 feet, the typical balcony doesn’t offer much depth. There’s enough space for a couple of chairs and a small table between, but that’s about it.

Sky Suites on Princess Cruises

The largest suites sleep up to eight and wrap around the side of the ship with 772 square feet of outdoor space. You can hold a party at your outdoor bar or sit down to an alfresco, room-service dinner. Along with this guest, another cruiser commented on their own personal experience of actually sleeping on their balcony by moving cabin furniture. Fell asleep looking at the stars listening to the waves, woke up to the sun rising over CocoCay,” said the commenter.

Other unique quirks of Virgin Voyages' Sea Terrace cabins are mood lighting and full-size beds that turn into sofas by day. The fancy Sky Suites, centrally located on a top deck, have huge, wraparound terraces that overlook the sea and the ship's sports deck. The 1,012-square-foot balcony features lounging areas, a dry bar, an alfresco dining setup and even a TV alcove.

Most opponents felt as though moving the mattress out to the balcony was a hazard to cleanliness. Adventure abounds in Labadee, also a Royal Caribbean private destination. You can set your own schedule in this tropical paradise, whether you prefer to go zip-lining over the ocean or unwinding in a breezy beachside bungalow. For seven days, it provided just enough space to hold all our clothes between the hangers and several shelves off to one side. Upon entering the room, the closet and desk area were to our left (forward) with the bed closer to the balcony. On the day bookings went on sale, we had a travel agent secure a guaranteed (GTY) cabin for us on the first sailing on June 12th.

The result is that even if you try to make it as dark as possible, there’s going to be some light entering the room in the mornings. So if you had a late night and want to sleep in, it could be enough to disturb you. Yes, you definitely can do that if you want to, but you might be surprised at how little time overall you actually spend there. Between activities around the ship, mealtimes, and being out in ports of call, the amount of time to actually just sit and do nothing is less than you think, unless you make it a priority. Cove cabins are limited in number and popular, so you'll need to snag one well in advance of your sailing.

If you're looking to go down under, dive into adventure at Chankanaab National Park, where you'll find everything from snorkeling to scuba diving to swimming with dolphins. Then, set out on a hike through Punta Sur National Park, where you'll trek through sea fan gardens and observe crocodiles in their natural habitat. From exotic wildlife to underwater thrills, Cozumel has it all. This comfortable, convenient, and affordable balcony cabin was the ideal home away from home for us on this first Royal Caribbean cruise in North America on Adventure of the Seas. Beyond the bathroom and closet is a sitting area with a love seat. This space usually becomes our storage area during the cruise.

With no space wasted for a traditional balcony, the other benefit of this setup is expanded indoor space. These cabins are 23 percent larger than on the line's Solstice-class ships, including bigger bathrooms. Whether you’re on a short getaway or weeklong wander, conquer record-breaking thrills and discover epic ways to chill at the award-winning Perfect Day at CocoCay.

This stateroom has a very typical setup for Royal Caribbean to which we have grown accustomed. The room has the more modern color motif for the carpet, décor, and linens. Book one of these suites and you also have unlimited access to Loft 19, a lounging area equipped with cushy loungers and cabanas that is reserved for suite guests.

The idea of moving your cruise cabin mattress to your balcony is not a new concept, as TikTok users have been sharing their experiences on social media for a while now. Other people now have to sleep on that mattress that was sitting on an exterior floor. I get those mattresses aren’t the cleanest to begin with, but this is unnecessary.

Note the white balcony fronts on the last two cabins on several decks. Tis is the obstruction, and is noted on the deck plans as a gray balcony, as opposed to white, and the cabins are classified as Bella for this reason. In addition, others pointed out that balconies are often misty with moisture in the evenings from the sea, even when it doesn’t rain. “The next guests are going to love the humidity and sea air in their mattress," said one responder. Of course, the post was not well received by everyone and many were totally against the idea for a multitude of reasons.

A recent post on social media shows two Royal Caribbean guests lying on a mattress while enjoying their balcony. Supposedly, the guests were onboard Allure of the Seas while docked in Perfect Day at CocoCay when they decided to move their cabin’s mattresses out to their balcony for some light reading. If you’re a light sleeper — or you like to sleep in — then a balcony room actually might have a disadvantage. You see, with one of these cabins the end of your room is essentially a wall of windows with a glass door that leads out.

These spaces vary widely in size, so it pays to study your ship's deck plan before booking. Affordable balcony cabins might come with a veranda so small your knees rub against the railing as you sit in one of two deck chairs flanking a small cocktail table. The most expensive suites, on the other hand, can have balconies as large as half a tennis court, equipped with cushy loungers, a big table for outdoor dining and even a private hot tub or plunge pool. They deliver mesmerizing views as your ship pulls out of ports of call, and their balconies tend to be larger than those on the sides of the ship.

With the window up, you have all the space of the cabin and balcony to enjoy indoors. With the window down, it’s as if your entire cabin is now the balcony as it’s open to the outside air. As of now, most balcony cabins are a traditional style where you have the cabin, and then a door that leads out to the outdoor balcony. But some newer ships are changing that style with a few rooms. Sister cruise line Royal Caribbean has introduced these cabins on its newest cruise ship, Icon of the Seas, and other ocean lines such as Atlas Ocean Voyages have begun to copy the idea, too.

Or crank up the party at Hideaway Beach℠, the ultimate adults-only beachfront paradise. Introducing the new Icon of the Seas℠, a whole new class of Royal Caribbean® adventure. Here, every day is a sun day with an all-you-can-swim buffet of seven unique pools – the most ever on a cruise.

You'll have more privacy than with typical balcony cabins, since no one can see you from above or the side — but that's not the main draw. With all balcony cabins, you can just throw on your bathrobe to catch views of wildlife or of your ship pulling into port. Keep in mind when you step outside that your balcony might not be entirely private — your neighbors might be able to see you (as will the ship's security team via hidden cameras). In the photo, two guests can be seen on their mattresses reading books with their balcony door open. The photo was apparently taken while Allure of the Seas and Anthem of the Seas were both docked at Royal Caribbean’s private island, Perfect Day at CocoCay, on March 13.
